First Lady #8

 Hanna Hoes Van Buren 1783-1819

His childhood sweetheart and cousin once removed, Hannah Hoes Van Buren was the wife of the eighth President, Martin Van Buren. She died of tuberculosis before he was elected, leaving him one of the few Presidents to remain unmarried in office. Not much is known of her but in the 12 years they were married she bore five children, one died.

My gr-gr grandfather was Martin Van Buren Shive. He was in the Civil War for a few years, injured leg. Not a pleasant man.

Thanks for the info. He is a relatively unknown president.

It is a shame she didn't make it to First Lady because she would have been a beautiful one.
