Tidbits

That little strawberry hooked to you pincushion


… is an emery board for your needles. Filled with tough emery sand—a combination of aluminum and iron oxides—the strawberry is historically a tool for polishing, sharpening, and removing rust from your pins and needles.

I did not know this! Makes me wonder what else I’m totally unaware of! I’m going to push a few pins in what I thought was just a cute decoration today!

My grandma had a strawberry on her pin cushion but I didn't' know it was an emery board.

i DO know this and used it just recently for the sewing project i was working on. recently on Facebook, people were making fun of people who "remember" this...and i thought, remember, hell i have one!! am i that old!!
