Well, I thought I went prepared with my books and maps but can you ever be prepared for this????
Welcome to Rome, where pedestrians versus smart cars, versus buses, verses mopeds.
This is not what I expected but you know the saying......"When in Rome do as the Romans do".
Yep, I got just as tricky as the next person but only on foot. You have to be crazy to drive there.
Any little space can be captured for parking...
This is a intersection with no light...just whoever gets there first and watch out for the mopeds/bicycles that slip in-between!
Had to take a picture of this.....Only a finger's worth apart! Believe it or not we didn't see any wrecks while we were there and most cars were in pretty good shape. The smart cars were the most popular and next the mopeds....haven't lived until you see one flying by with a woman in a short skirt and high heels, a helmet and hair flying as she speeds by hell bent for an election.
What didn't I see? Stray dogs. Really only dogs on leashes and only one stray cat did I see and we walked this whole city.
For anyone that has traveled overseas you already know the endurance of the travel time required to get there. For us it was a flight from Ariz. to Texas then to Spain and then to Rome. After about 18 hours fly time and going through many time zones you land in a whole new world and just have to trust that it is time for dinner:)
We started out pretty rough as hubby's glasses broke (the little screw came out) we were able to save the screw (in the chap stick) and tie them together with the earphone wire from the plane. Then.......almost to the Hotel via the shuttle Hubby realizes he left his wallet in the plane seat. Had set it there after paying for some food and then forgot it. YIKES!!!! Well, fortunately he carries most of his money in front pockets as well as his passport so after getting the credit cards blocked that he had and me carrying a different one we were okay.
Big tip!! Always make a copy of the cards you are carrying with you and make note of the phone numbers on the back...leave one copy home and take one with you. Read this...did this....saved our butt.
I'll show you our hotel next time.............

Typical parking lot between streets

Great advice! I'm glad you were able to cancel the cards and enjoy your trip.
Can't wait to see more photos.
oh lordy on the forgotten wallet! good save (both on that and the eyeglasses!) rome sounds like quite the adventure, based on your pics!
You are in Rome - you lucky ducky - I have been there once. Know the big circle you are talking about. And the traffic is horrid - but fun. Have a great time. sandie
Oh man.... hard to believe...glad it worked out with the wallet!!
What a great update of your travels. How do the parkers ever get out of their parking spaces? Looks like they are in for life. That traffic would do me in. What a mess to lose the wallet but I would have bet money that you guys would be prepared and, of course, you were. Glad to know you're having a good time.
Yes, things are sure much different there! I was in Paris many years ago and the traffic was much like what you experienced in Rome.
Guess people get used to whatever is necessary LOL
(The sheep in your last post are amazing...I felt lopsided just looking at the picture!)
How do they ever get out of those parking spaces? lol The lost wallet would have made my head spin a bit. Glad you were able to work it out. Looking forward to the next set of pics!
what pictures!!! My daughter just came back from Rome...she spent 3 wks there...enjoyable and uneventful..no wallet mishaps!!!
lucky you...
