H - Horsefly

Nobody likes flies and in the past when I heard someone say "horse fly" I just assumed it was a large fly.....wrong!

Horseflies and Deer flies are a breed of their own.....
The deer fly is smaller than the horse fly but they can be 3/4 to 1/ 1/4 inches long and........they bite!!!

They are extremely noisy at night and do no just prey on deer and horses....they like humans as well and these

aren't a lot of help since they don't travel alone.
There have a special cream you can put on just like to ward off mosquitoes but I would rather just not encourter them.

Horse flies and deer flies were something we had to deal with growing up in Louisiana. I've been biten by them many times. Don't see them around much anymore, but I live in Texas now. Don't know if that's the difference or not.

Yes, you have to stay away from those flies. And now you reminded me that fly season is on its way! It has been so nice to be without them for the winter.

Yuck. I think I just threw up in my mouth. When I was a kid, our summer cabin always had tons of horse flies. Yes, they bit. I found that out the hard way.

Just hopping by on the the A-Z challenge. Keep up the good work.

Glad you took the challenge as I am learning a lot from your efforts. I really do not like any flying insect but these critters are horrible. I can honestly say I have never met a horse fly I did not hate and try to kill. Peace

I hate horseflys. They always seem to terrorize me during the summer when I'm in the pool lounging. Makes it hard to relax! And boy do those suckers hurt!

Our goats aren't particular and will attract any kind of fly they can. Actually I don't think they attract horse flies and that is very good. We go through a lot of 7 around here!

Oh - I do not enjoy flies. Where my sister lives in northern Florida, there are also biting Yellow Flies! They're awful. :)

Lynn from A to Z and a regular reader of Granny Annie's blog. I always see you over there. I just realized you are doing the challenge, too.

I laughed out loud at the thought of someone literally shouting "HORSE FLY!"

I've never heard of them, but I'll be slathering some of that special cream on every time I venture outdoors now, me thinks...

We're in New Brunswick, Canada and those suckers sure can bite, even through jeans. I hate that season. They drive the deer and moose from the woods and people into their homes.
Great post.
