What a difference a day makes...

This is what hubby said after falling Tues. and spending four days in the hospital. Fortunately he only compressed his lumbar and got a concussion but he is so sore that he is sure a truck ran over him. It was to be a big week of competition and instead it is all he can do to get he to the bathroom. However, at his age and the kind of fall it was it is a miracle he did not break a hip or fracture his skull.

God is good!

Bummer

A long time ago I read about making some things for the military and the items need to be made with 100% wool so I bought this skien
of Fisherman's wool (the dog chewed the paper) to make a helmet liner but didn't start it until recently and to my dismay the yarn is flawed big time.....Every so often it is frayed like this

at first I thought it was just a one time thing but as I progressed it happened more often. I tried to knot it and contiue but I felt the project was just bad so ripped it out and will get rid of this yarn!!! Wished I would have discovered it sooner and I would have returned it but it has been too long. Has anyone else every experienced this?

Hubby surprised me

It was Friday and Hubby said lets go for a jaunt tomorrow. Now, most of the time I do the planning so this was a treat.!

First we headed up toward Flagstaff  but of course we had to have breakfast at the Cliff Castle Casino and can you believe it? I won $40.00 on a penny machine and cashed out and took it with us:)

Only less than 2 hours and we were up in the snow...
We drove through Flagstaff and headed toward Williams, Az.

This was our destination

Bearizona is approximately 160 acres and visitors will drive through more than three miles of Ponderosa Pine Forest when they visit.
Smaller and baby animals are exhibited in Fort Bearizona, a beautiful 20 acre walk-thru area, along winding paths.
This opened in 2010 and we had never been through it. Fortunate for us we follow a bus tour so they put food close to the road and the animals all came up close. It was fantastic....

Yes, up close and personal!

They are building a beautiful lodge and I hope we can go up and stay one week-end.

After our tour we headed to town for lunch. Hubby suggested Rod's steakhouse. This area is our old stompin ground from when we were kids and Rod's steakhouse was a BIG deal and I had never had lunch there and only dinner after we were married.
This has been in front of the restaurant from the beginning but the new thing is that it is chained. I guess people tried to steal it. The restaurant opened in 1946, two years before I was born and the food has always been excellent. We shared a prime rib sandwich and it was devine! Here is a few pictures of the inside...

Hanging dried chilies

There is also a large dinning room to the back. I was thrilled to have my sandwich on the original dishes....
(sorry for the leftover potato salad...thought I wiped it clean)

From here we headed down the hill to our hometown of Ash Fork and stopped to visit hubby's brother.......
He has had a couple of rough years so was glad to see him up and about.

Our last stop was at L& W restaurant  close to home for dinner

A 322 mile jaunt ........
Tired but it was fun.
