In my little corner of the world

Flowers lining the drive way to the Lakes Restaurant. They not only are beautiful, but they smell wonderful as well.....If only I could add that to the picture.

Technology

You know how you see the young people with their little (fit in your back pocket) phone in their hand and their fingers  flying over the keyboard?

Texting while eating, showering, sleeping and everything in between?

This is us Grandparents....

Is it coming? I sent it..........

Audio Book

I love to listen to a audio book while I am knitting or cleaning or whatever and I choose books for a variety of reasons but one of the most consistent reasons is to learn from a different perspective thus...
The first thing that caught my attention about this book is that the main character was born in a iron lung...
Her mother contracted polio while pregnant with her and although her Dad flaked out her Mom with help from a black woman raises her. The time frame of the story is1964 and segregation is still a part of life.......At one point they spoke of "Freedom summer".  I was not familiar with this so looked it all up and what a lot of info that lead me to...................

Although in 1865 a Republican congress passed the 14th amendment providing full civil rights to blacks the democrats created all sorts of tactics to keep the blacks from voting such as the Ku Kux Klan and poll taxes, literacy tests, white only primaries, physical intimidation, and restrictive eligibility regulations to name a few and because of the blatant attempt to nullify the 14th amendment the Republican congress passed the 15th amendment and not one democrat voted for it. Here it is 1964 and the blacks were are still not able to vote freely and one of the characters gets involved in "Freedom Summer" where some were injured and even killed.

From today's perspective it is portrayed that it is the Republicans that want to restrain the black vote and we saw some  intimidation by the democrat's against the white vote (no one called it that)....

It is amazing how things have changed....from 1964 when the black people were still fighting just for the right to vote to 2012 where recent news showed us this lady...
Not seeing any problem in voting six times.

From one extreme to the next...isn't there any common sense out there?

Note: Although the book is not a fast moving book it was interesting because of the different life styles so it hit the spot for me.

Amazing!!

A friend of ours from New York saw this product for your glasses at the shoot and bought some....

I am telling you...it is amazing stuff. If you wear glasses, you know how it seems you are always looking through one smudge or another but clean your glasses with this and they will stay clean for days!!
I am impressed!

This and That

Normally I knit for newborns in need but got a little Christmas present ready early for the Granddaughter....

A little cosmetic bag...didn't it turn out cute!

You know how when you get older the things you wouldn't eat as a kid you now think is good???
Well, look what I re-discovered....
Broiled grapefruit with cinnamon and sugar.

I am reminding myself.........
Go ahead...let loose, let her rip, and come May I will be on Medicare so no worries about the doctor bills....
Or so they tell me.

Another year

It was Winter Range time again a couple of week-ends ago. I took a few pictures to share with you...

Background and one hot air balloon early in the morning...

and in no time there were three on such a beautiful clear morning.
It had been windy and stormy the prior days so this was a pleasant sight for all.

That is hubby on the right getting ready to shoot and our friend from New York at the table loading.

Hubby walking up to the stage. See some of the targets in the back and the fellow in the beige jacket is our friend Owen, he is deaf so Bob interprets the instructions for him as well as shooting first so he can watch.....He is a great guy and shoots pretty darn good. Note hubby's jacket?    Never miss a opportunity to advertise:)

I spent most of the afternoon at the mounted shooting area as it is my favorite event but fear not advertisement for hubby and the gun shop we are affiliated with were right there....
We have been affiliated with Legendary Guns for 22 years and Bob does all the gunsmithing for the 45's.

There were several cute sites about...

and many rows of vendors all in the big tents selling their wares.

Legendary guns had a tent as well and of course Bob shared it along with another friend but have you ever heard of a
micro burst? This is a picture of how it works...

and this is how it looked after getting called at 2:00 AM saying one had hit our tent and all the guns were exposed.

Picked up our tent as well as four other and flopped it over the truck with the camper in the background....see the white propane tank to the right? That was in the middle of our tent. Bob didn't have any damage to guns because his were in cases but the gun shop had several rifles in racks and they got thrown all over and many of the old ones broke. Fortunately this happened Sat. night and all but a few of the shooting events were finished and no one was hurt.
The weather is always unpredictable at Winter Range but never had this happen before.
