My show and tell today is this old milk can. On it says "Redstone, Montana". Many years ago, my mother brought this from the old homestead where she grew up in Montana and she put it in luggage on the airplane with an old bridle inside. The airlines lost it so they had to deliver it to the house here and at that time I was terribly embarrassed...........but wouldn't she be surprised that it has a special place here today:)

Today, I am going to show you my hidden treasure.

Many years ago I went to the second hand store to try to find some old cheap picture frames for some pictures I had. I bought this frame that had a picture of a little girl holding a balloon. It looked as if it had been cut out of a magazine but of course it was the frame I wanted. After I got home and took the back off, behind the balloon picture was this painting. Written on the back of the small canvas it says "Old Iron Gate Entrance French Quarter New Orleans by Colette Pope Heldver 1933". I looked up her name and she and her husband both were known painters. It is an amazing little painting because it is so small (3 1/4 x 2 3/4) and yet so detailed.

On top of the china cabinet sits these


pieces of glasswear from my Mom. They have all turned purple with age.

But a special peek inside reveals this dried rose from her funeral and a very old broken watch

Most of the time I display an antique but today I thought I would show you my butterfly:)

I had this area in the back yard that I wanted to put something different/unique and so I bought this butterfly from a little gal I shot with in Fast Draw. She worked at customizing cars and did things like this on the side. When I told her I wanted to buy it I said the deal would have to include delivery. She agreed and crated it so that it would not fly out the back of the truck:) We have it staked to the ground for the same reason. He indeed is different...........

This is a butter press. It belonged to my Grandmother and was well used. After making the butter it was pressed into this and it would leave it in a nice shape with a pretty design on the top.

I don't know that our plastic tubs have been much of an improvement:)

For today's show and tell I have chosen one of the two matching pictures I made several years ago.

These were made with fine crochet thread and then glued onto the background. My Mom taught me to crochet when I was about 10 years old..these were more fun to make than potholders:)

My mother left me a huge amount of old sheet music she acquired from a friend. I came up with this wall decoration for my guest bedroom from some of them.
Notice the tuning fork? That is my hubby's contribution.

These were my dishes as a girl. They are china and I have them displayed in a room I call "the doll room". In the near future they will go back in a box, packed away, as I am going to turn the doll room into a home gym:)

This is a Christmas ornament that belonged to my Grandfather. I have had it for 40 years and I don't know how long he had it before I got it. It is really just plastic painted to shine and a very crude clip to attach it to the tree and then nylon strings make the tail.

I didn't know my Grandfather very well and only saw him, maybe three times in my lifetime but just knowing it was his, makes it special.

Our first year of marriage we didn't have any Christmas decorations and my Grandfather had passed away 7 months before so my parents brought these home for us. It included an aluminum tree (see picture under on my Nostalgia site).

These are pictures of old telephone insulators.

They were first created in 1850 and could be found not only on telephone poles but also electric power lines. My mother collected dozens of them and many of the clear ones are now purple from age.

A friend of mine makes these beautiful wind chimes so I gave him one of mine to make this one for me.

My dollhouse:

I purchased this dollhouse already put together but not decorated from a friend who was an antique dealer. When the time came that I started working on it I realized that whoever had put it together must have been recovering from brain surgery and did it with a glue gun! I sought out help and found out that I could use a hairdryer to take it apart and clean it up.......................so I totally disassembled it and started over.

I worked on it during the O.J. Simpson trial and it gave me a good excuse to be still.

I love it because it reminds me of the old homestead of my grandparents.

Yes, I did the electrical and roofed it:)

The days you actually went to the post office and got your mail. Our post office box number was 235 and I was just barely tall enough to work the dials.

Last week I showed a tablecloth embroidered by my Grandmother. I was asked if I had a picture of her to share and it reminded me of this one. It is her engagement picture to my Grandfather. What is so unusual about this picture is that it is an actual tin. I have no idea how they embedded the pictures onto it.

Show and Tell Friday is the opportunity to display something that is dear to you that you have in your home or garden. I wanted to partipate in this because I have been blessed with so many things that have been passed down to me.

My first show and tell is a picture of a tablecloth my Maternal Grandmother made when she was 16 years old (1896). She was born in Bolnislan, Sweden and immigrated to the USA in 1907. This is one of the things she brought with her in her immigrants trunk. This type of embroidery is called “bondesom”. It is a solid stitch done in bright colors. People in the mountains loved bright colors. It is in perfect condition and only wished I could ask her how long it took her to make it:)
