These are pictures of old telephone insulators.

They were first created in 1850 and could be found not only on telephone poles but also electric power lines. My mother collected dozens of them and many of the clear ones are now purple from age.



A friend of mine makes these beautiful wind chimes so I gave him one of mine to make this one for me.

My father has a lot of old insulators. He used to work for Public Service Electric and Gas before he retired. Many of my relatives also worked for the phone company. I've seen quite a few of them, but I've never seen them made into windchimes.

What a cool idea! I have a whole box of those. I bet there's a science to the length of the chimes though... Now I'm curious. And having creative ideas... Thank you.
