A little getaway
Last week-end Hubby and I went up to Cliff Castle Casino near Camp Verde. We have been there several times but they built a hotel so spent the night. You aren't suppose to take pictures in the casino (found out the hard) but I was able to get a few of some of the beautiful rock work.
Sitting at the bar
We had dinner here
With its rock walls and gentle waterfall, Storytellers captures the spirit of ancient Indian dwellings. The name comes from a Native American tradition of passing on history through storytelling.
Beautiful and the food is great.
A sitting place between the casino and the rooms
Breakfast buffet
Valet parking area
This is up on a hill and a pretty place. It is a higher elevation and hubby couldn't breathe good with the copd so we headed home early but was nice.

This was hubby's supper...Gnocchi De Saumon * Pan Seared Salmon, Fresh Vegetables, Basil Pesto Cream Hubby said it was the best Salmon he ever had.
This was mine.......Chicken Francese Seared Chicken Breast Filet, Lemon Cream Sauce, Angel Hair, Asparagus I enjoyed mine and had enough chicken left over to make chicken burros for lunch.
This past Friday night we went here....
Cute decor...
Hubby had corned beef and cabbage with parsley gravy and I had the same thing but with a pork shoulder instead of the corned beef. It was delicious and we are having the left overs tonight:)

Ambulance
The other day when I was driving to the hospital I saw a ambulance parked at the back of a gas station and it got me to thinking about what do they do between calls. It is something I had not thought of before and I realize that they don't have a station to wait at so I proceeded to go online and look it up. I found this wonderful article
http://mentalfloss.com/article/90007/14-behind-scenes-secrets-paramedics
which is full of a lot of interesting information on a not always appreciated group of people. But, I still have one question.....when waiting for a call in Phoenix, Az. and it is 110 degrees outside are you sitting in that tin box without the air on? All I can say is thank-you.

Did you know?
Leviticus gives us the word "scapegoat" which means a person who takes the blame for someone else. On Israel's annual day of repentance, known in Hebrew as Yom Kippur, the high priest lays his hands on a goat to symbolize the nations's sins being transferred to the sacrificial animal. The animal is then driven into the desert to die. Its departure represents the nation's sins leaving as well.
Many times we hear words being used only to be surprised at their origin.

A Sunday jaunt
Week before last hubby and I went to breakfast and then a little drive to White Tank Mountain Park.
We haven't gone there in over 20 years and was surprised at all the growth of houses and businesses on the drive there. It is located west-central Maricopa and encompasses 29,291 acres of desert and mountain landscape. Being it is the middle of July here I thought for sure we would have it all to ourselves but there were many parked cars and even some motorhomes! Here are some pictures...
Heading towards it...
Many picnic areas like this with a grill too.
The last time we were here we walked there and there was a little water fall and some guys were repelling.
And of course cactus....lots of cactus..
Not a problem for this little dove....
and nice restrooms too. It all was well maintained.

The beginning
The picture of my Mom that I posted earlier is the reason for this setting ...
I had this little space next to our fireplace in the family room and I wanted to put the picture here so we went to a antique store looking for a small desk but low and behold this is what I found. It is called a side by side and it was a perfect fit plus it was built in 1918, the year my Mom was born! The picture to the right of the candle...
my Mom is the baby. Her parents immigrated here from Norway and homesteaded in Montana.
It is a beautiful piece and I have never regretted buying it.
Along with many old, old pictures I have these books that came from where my Mom went to school as a young girl...
and these old bookends keep them standing...
This is a traveling clock/radio and it folds up..
I took a liking to travel alarms and bought several old ones.
This picture is next to the one of my Mom as a baby and is of my husbands Dad's (first bottom left) family.
The pictures inside on the top shelf are all grandparents of me and hubby and the glass set below was my parents and has a Z on them for their last name "Zettler)
Below these are these old soda glasses...
On the bottom shelf are these two old dishes
This is all metal and has a little pedestal, may be like a bread dish.
Metal and glass
On the shelf above the desk area are these glasses...
