I love clocks and especially antique travel clocks. I have them scattered all over the house.

Here it is open. The clock is wind up and still works but the thermometer doesn't. I have this on a little shelf  in the sewing room.

This has a dial on the front that has the names of places all over the world and I guess if you set it for where you are then you can see what time it is in another country by finding it on the dial. This no longer works and I have it closed, tucked in with some old family picture.

A new experience

Because we eat out so often, waiters, waitresses, managers, owners and bartenders have become friends. One such little gal is involved in Axe Capoeira; a Afro-Brazilian Martial Arts and Dance. They had a performance this Sunday in Scottsdale so we went in support of her.

Right next to the center they were having a Greek Festival so we took in a little of that too...it was an around the world day and we never left Arizona:)

Today is Veterans Day and I have to ask is this what our men died for?

Listen, it isn't just that she put on a scarf to respect India...I mean who supplied this polyester suit that is three sized too big?

H-E-L-P

I have had months and months of the same problem leaving a comment on other blogs and I am hoping that maybe someone can help me solve it. I sign into my own blog first so I should already be "signed in" but when I go to leave a comment on a blog it asks me my user name and password. I put that in and it comes back and says there is a problem and asks for the password again. I put it in again and then it shows me the code word to type in. I type that in and if I am really lucky it accepts my comment. On the blogs that have a drop down menu to choose how to comment, I choose google and  I have to post it at least three times before it will accept it. Needless to say I have to REALLY want to leave a comment to go through this all the time.............can anyone help me?

Wild West Days limping

Cave Creek Arizona is about 30 miles from Phoenix and is an interesting little town. Similar to Scottsdale but more rustic. This past week-end they held their Wild West Celebration and they had everything form Live bands, a parade, Arts & Crafts Festival, Pig racing, Bathtub Races, Mutton Bustin, Wagon rides, Petting zoo, Chili cook off, Mechanical bull riding for the ladies and PRCA bull Riding for the men. I love the bull riding so talked hubby into going. Our plan was to go around lunch time and then stay for the bull riding that was to start at 4:00pm. There is a little Mexican food restaurant we like on the way to Cave Creek and I suggested we eat our lunch there..........Jackpot!
The restaurant in under new management and  is now El Encanto Dos sister restauanrt to the one in Cave Creek  you can check it out  http://www.elencantorestaurants.com/  and is even better than before!  They built a huge patio covered patio with Ocotillo branches and vines and plants all around, a fireplace on one end and seating in front of a little man made creek on the other side. .

Entertainment - he was really good and the best Chili Relleno I have ever eaten. We sat outside and there was a soft breeze (very rare in Arizona) and we were just in heaven. Hubby said just this was worth the trip.

The bull riding was to be held at the Buffalo Chip Saloon so we were able to secure a parking place there and strolled (limped) to Harold's restaurant next door. Caught a glimpse of a pig race.

Had a ice cold beer on the patio and did some people watching.....

Considered taking a wagon ride (even hobbled over to the loading zone) but decided climbing up into a wagon may not be the wisest thing to do with a healing broken ankle. Well, I gave it my best but I couldn't last long enough to see the bull riding. We called it a day and headed home but I took one more picture to show you Cave Creek

I recently read this little saying "Never wrestle with a pig - you get dirty and he likes it". I immediately thought of the dirt flying campaigns that are going on.

Here is another thought....if they lie and cheat to get elected what will they lower themselves to do once they are in office?

Our country is in a sorry state and many are feeling like it won't matter how the votes go.......if you are wondering why....listen to this man's reponse to the question "what is the greatest danger to America".....Won't matter if you are left or right, if you are an American it will pierce your heart. When Governor Brewer signed the immigration law in April, Arizona was to have had a black eye but you may like to know the status today. There has been 3.6 million dollars donated to help fight the lawsuit brought against us with 42,000 people donating and 25 states have said they would draft similar laws in their states. I've always been happy to be an Arizonaian but maybe today just a tad more.

Senior Health Care solution--according to Maxine

So you're a Senior citizen and the government says no health-care for you, what do you do?

Our plan gives anyone 65 years or older a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 senators and 2 representatives.

Of course this means you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head and all the health care you need? New teeth, no problem. Need glasses, great. New hip, knees, kidney, lungs, heart? All covered. And you can take all those college classes you never had time for...free! And your kids can come and visit you as often as they do now.

And who will be paying for all of this? The same government that just told you that you are too old for health care. Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income taxes anymore and some states even allow you to vote so you can still have your say.

Is this a great country or what?!!



Bang for your buck

We have a plant here in Arizona that we call "Cat's claw" but in Spanish it is known as Una de Gato or as Indian name of Vilcacora. It is a woody vine found in the tropical jungles of South and Central America and it derives its name form it's claw-shaped thorns.

Several years ago I planted two of these plants in a little planter in the side yard

Three month anniversary

Today marks three months since I took my fall and broke my ankle. It is all a process, but really when you look at it...it is a bit amazing how our bodies heal. Yesterday was an especially good day and I was able to do several things, go to the grocery (those little electric carts are so fun!) Put the groceries away, feed the critters, take the bird out for walk outside, make a casserole for the crockpot, and took a shower! I think back to when I was first home from surgery and just taking the shower was a feat that required a nap. The biggest wonder of all was that hubby and I was able to do a little swing dance last night. We have been dancing together for nearly 45 years and it is special to the both of us so you can imagine it was a bit of celebration. Didn't have all the fancy moves but that will come back in time, for now.....I'm dancing on a almost matched pair......Yahoo!!

Coober Pedy

Coober Pedy, "Opal Capital of the World, Located in Northern South Australia.

Opal was first found in Coober Pedy on the 1st of Feb. 1915 and since that time has been supplying the world with the majority of the gem quality opal but that isn't the only interesting thing about Coober Pedy. It is probably best known for its unique style of underground living due to the fact that it is very hot there year round.

By living underground they maintain a cool environment with hardly no expense, however the view on top leaves a lot to be desired

There are underground museums, potteries, opal shops, an art gallery and of course, opal mines to explore and for you golfers.....fear not. The local golf course-mostly played at night with glowing balls to avoid daytime temperature is completely free of grass and golfers take a small piece of  "turf" around to use for teeing off.
