Aluminum foil

Does it matter if you cook with the aluminum foil shiny side out or facing into your food?

Does it cook faster? slower? Does it matter?

"The difference in appearance between dull and shiny is due to the
foil manufacturing process. In the final rolling step, two layers of
aluminum foil are passed through the rolling mill at the same time.
The side coming in contact with the mill's highly polished steel
rollers becomes shiny. The other side, not coming in contact with the
heavy rollers, comes out with a dull or matte finish."

So the answer is that shiny or dull has no affect on the cooking or storing of food but....
now the real question....how do you use it.....shiny side out or facing the food?

That's hilarious!
Someone once told me if I cooked with the shiny side out, it would burn the elements in the stove out sooner. (This was told to me after the elements went on my oven)
Soooo..I always try cooking with shiny side in. Since doing that..I seriously have not had an element burn out.
But if it's true or not...or just luck? no idea:)

What a useful piece of information, ha, ha. I, without ever giving it a second thought, always put the shiny side out, wrapping or in the oven.

No preference for me. I use it as it happens to fall on the counter.

I don't know why but I put the shiny on the outside.

This will sound silly, but I LIKE the shiny side on the outside. lol

Well my dad told me once to it would cook faster having shiny side facing in...and I always thought my dad knew everything!! (I never notices a difference...but just did it because of him!)

What a great question... I'm wondering... I think I always cook with the shiny side up. It makes me happier. hehe

This question has haunted me for years. Thank you for solving the dilemma. Also, if the previously used piece is clean, I MUST fold it neatly and save to use again. My mother saved so much aluminum foil, we knew the day would come when the garage would contain a huge ball of it.

That turned out to be pretty neat...as for me? I look at it like fabric...a right side and a wrong side and of course the right side (shiny) goes out.

I used to do shiny side out then my husband said food would cook faster shiny side in..I am not convinced:)
