Prayer

In my past days I played piano for church and so I have a lot of old music and some old hymnals. Recently I was looking through this one.......

Some of you old timers might remember it. Well, I found this song and it just touched my heart so I thought I would share the words with you.

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire, Uttered or expressed;
The motion of a hidden fire that trembles in the breast.

Prayer is the simplest form of speech that infant lips can try;
Prayer is sublimest strains that reach the Majesty on high.

Prayer is the contrite sinner's voice returning from his ways,
While angels in their songs rejoice and say "Behold he prays."

Prayer is the Christian's vital breath, the Christian's native air,
His watchword at the gate of death, He enters heaven with prayer.

I used to play piano for church too. I love to get out the hymnal and play some of those old songs. I don't know this one, but I really like the words.

The lyrics say so much, are so meaningful. I used to place piano (poorly) for church. I'll see if this song can be found.

Old hymnals have some gems from the past.
