Up close and personal

Last Thursday at my small group the leader asked how many had fallen in the last six months, I raised my hand as well as some of the other women. She said "it is much easier to fall again once you have fallen".
Come Sat. morning I went out to the garage to take some garbage out which I have done hundreds of times and coming back I stubbed my toe on the step and went down on the cement on my right side.
Trust me it was not a pretty picture. It scared me so bad I peed my pants and I knew I was hurt, the question was....how bad. I was home alone and it occurred to me I may not be able to get up and hubby wouldn't be home for hours and hours. I remembered when I broke my ankle that it went numb right away so I thought I better try to get up right away. I was able to grab a hold of a table saw leg and pulled myself up, got in the house and found my cell phone and laid down on the couch to keep from throwing up as I was hurting bad. Well, that is all the bad news, the good news is that I fell on my side with my right arm under me and it helped cushion my fall so that I only have VERY sore ribs and one black and blue boob (can you believe it)  some bruising on both knees and on my right hand. Thank you Lord. I think falling is the most helpless feeling in the world, would you agree?

I am glad you are just sore and didn't break anything. Sore will get better and I hope you don't fall again anytime soon.

Yes I do agree about falling. I type medical reports for a living. I can't tell you how many reports I have typed that people fall, can't get back up, and sometimes lay there for days until someone comes to check on them. Keeping cell phone literally on you or one of those life alerts is a good thing as we get older. Hope you recovery soon!

OUCH! That sounds painful. My boyfriend just broke a couple ribs himself. It can be debilitating

i actually teared up reading this. falling is so humiliating. i have MS and fall frequently, i have never broken anything but my ribs and it was SO painful...the pain always brought me to my knees. i never walk anywhere without my cell phone in my pocket, so if i need help, i always have a way to reach out to someone. you should do the same. i am truly happy that you are ok!!!!

Yes I agree it is a helpless feeling but if you cannot upright yourself that is even worse. The last one I had was a couple of years ago and I was heading down the metal steps on the upper porch to the bottom porch with a flower pot in my hands. Yep about 4th step from the bottom of the stairs my heal caught on the step and threw me forward. I landed on my hands and knees on the bottom concrete porch and I stayed there an eternity until I could talk myself into getting up. Lucky for me and you we did not break anything just sore and bruised. Take care and so thankful you were not seriously hurt. I remember telling Prince "I am too old to fall that way." Peace

Yes, I do agree with you. I am just about the clumbsiest person on earth. I sprain one or the other ankle at least once a year, and this summer, twisted one again, but fell in a funny way and broke my femur bone. I felt just like you..almost wishing I had an alert button around my neck as I watched my daughter drive up the road and she didn't look my direction. I had to crawl in to the house. It is a scary feeling, and yes- once you fall, it happens again and again, unless you watch every little step. Oy vey!

I spend my life preparing for the fall. Not the season but the event. I'm pretty sure it will take place on my laundry room stairs. Bless your heart my friend.
