My sisters and I used to catch them in jars when we were kids and go to sleep with them "blinking" by our beds. Later when we were asleep, our parents would retrieve the jar and let them go. I haven't seen a firefly in ages.
I remember years ago growing up when we lived in Pennsylvania us kids would go out with jars to try to catch them; not sure how many we actually did though :)
I saw them a lot when I was a child but not so much since then! They are magical and I hope to see more of them before I go. I also hope I can see them with my grandchildren! How cool would that be??
I probably should not tell this but we enjoyed the fireflies and would pinch off their lights and put them on our fingers or wrists as rings or bracelets. I did not grow up a serial killer I promise.

I first saw and caught them on a trip to Arkansas when I was probably 13 or 14. They are amazing creatures.
I've caught them. We have a lot around here in the summer. They are so cool!

We still have then in late June. If you hold them too long your hands get yucky:)

I remember them when I was a little girl! Last summer we saw some down at the ranch and it was such fun to watch them again!!
